Martin Earle, a renowned British iconographer, has beautifully captured the spiritual essence of the Cumbrian Saints in a series of altar pieces now displayed in Christ the Good Shepherd church in Workington. These icons, painted with meticulous attention to traditional iconographic techniques, honour the region’s rich Christian heritage by depicting the local saints whose lives were integral to the spread of Christianity in Cumbria. Among these figures stands the Servant of God, John Bradburne, a modern-day martyr and missionary, whom Martin Earle has chosen to include alongside the historical saints of Cumbria, symbolising Bradburne’s rising significance within the Church.
